      Gentlemen:

Will a package such as Snort run faster on Pfsense 2.2 given it is based on BSD 10? In general will Pfsense 2.2  run quicker on an Xeon processor?
I understand Pfsense 2.2 will run on multiple cores. Any discussion will be appreciated.

Generally speaking, everything should be faster, but specifically for snort or other areas it's more difficult to say without proper testing to confirm.

well on my atom D525 it is shutdown and startup 2x faster then 2.1.5 based on old 8.3-p16 or something pXX…so even on atom is supa fast compared to the old one in boot up & shutting down. snort is running same speeds i still has not much scales from 2+2 hyper threaded cores...but xeon giving you much more raw power & scaling ofc.

The big speed advantage with 2.2 you're going to see is the multi-core capable pf in FreeBSD 10.
I think that the maintainer of the Snort and Sucuricata packages mentioned he was working on making them scale better across many cores though.
Edit: Can't find where I read that now though.  ::)
