      What is the difference between buying from the PFsense store and purchasing from Netgate? Is there benefits to using one over the other?

      Additionally if you purchase your hardware from netgate or pfsense do you get free support to help you actually configure it if there is an issue over the phone? Sorry this would be my first purchase through either.

      And finally if I purchase the FW-7551 will I hear it running such as the fan? I plan to do podcasts and I don't want any noise but I prefer a processor with AES-NI support for when the new versions of PFsense support it.

      Is there any new hardware coming up that is worth the wait for PFsense?

      I plan to be using Snort and Squid to the fullest along with VPN and Netflow.

          Thank you stephenw10 that answers my first question. But what about the following:

            I've not used an FW-7551 but:
            @http://store.pfsense.org/FW-7551/:

            Note: Smart Fan noise is noticeable on this unit, we recommend placing the unit in an area where additional fan noise will not be a factor.

            The upcoming ADI units look pretty good but they won't be available for a while.

            What is your WAN bandwidth?

                The one downside to the 7551 is the fan, it's not quiet at all. Granted, at least one of us is running one with the fan completely unplugged and it runs well under its max temp, but that will void your warranty. We have at least one other internally where the fan was replaced with something quieter and it's not as bad then, but it's still loud. Definitely something you want to keep in a closet or computer room, not something running next to your desk.

                  Interesting that the RCC-VE has a fanless option with that same processor.

                  At 50Mbps you havd some options. The APU board will probably handle that.

                  Any idea what you might upgrade to? Do you need 4 interfaces?

                    Well given that I will be doing road warrior based VPN for about 3 users. Want to run full snort/squid/netflow/freeradius for home with about 50Mbs up to 100mbs would the Netgate APU4 be a better choice since it is fanless and still achieve the mission? VPN is undetermined if it will be IPSEC or OpenVPN.

                    Essentially I want to add every infosec tool I can to harden my home network. Snort will be in inline IPS based mode since I will be running some servers.

                      As I said the APU will probably suffice at 50Mbps but it won't do VPN at 100Mbps. If you want to be be able to load up the box with as many services as possible your'e going to need something significantly more powerful such as a Rangley based board. The FW-7551 has a fan but there are other fanless cooling solutions available if you can't wait for the Netgate/ESF to start selling the ADI boxes (which seem to be fanless). The FW-7525 for example:

                      You'd have to find a supplier though.
