TinyDNS and Reverse DNS
I have a network with 30 winxp client pcs and 2 AD win2003 server domains.
On win2k3 servers is DNS server running with forward and reverse dns zones.
As default gateway is a pfsense box.I want pfsense to be able to resolve dns names of internal clients so i can generate traffic reports via lightsquid via dns option. If i install tinydns and put static A and PTR records of names of internal pcs
will i do the job or i have to put as dns servers on general page of pfsense the internal dns servers to do the rdns?
or i have to put as dns servers on general page of pfsense the internal dns servers to do the rdns?
You'll lose name resolution from the internet if you do so and DNS servers will get in trouble looking up each other.
The easiest way is to put static ARC entries in the DHCP server section of your pfSense linking MACs, IPs and host names.
i don't have dhcp service running on pfsense neither the network…all clients have static ips...if i put static entries on tinydns won't work?
Uups, sorry, forgot you are using TinyDNS.
Haven't worked with it, hence can't tell.
