I just updated my test APU to:
      2.2-BETA (amd64)
built on Wed Nov 26 15:27:11 CST 2014
      FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE

It did not reinstall any packages, and I can't see in the system log where it has even tried. It just has:

      Nov 27 09:35:54 php-fpm[6646]: /rc.start_packages: Restarting/Starting all packages.

Here is the system log from near the end of the FreeBSD kernel boot output up to when I logged into the webGUI - latest at top:

Huh, that's the same snapshot I have on all our package test systems, and they did properly reinstall packages. That nano or full on that APU? At this instant, our package test systems are all full installs. I'm rectifying that right now.

Same setup I have on my test APU. Though I didn't have any packages on it when I upgraded it to that same snapshot. I do now, will upgrade again when there's a new snapshot and see.

All I had on mine was Cron - I noticed because when this happens the menus still have the package entries but clicking them gets a page not found because the code behind it is not there.

Might have been glitches during the changes.
Can you try with the latest snapshot?

                  @phil.davis:

I just updated my test APU to:

                  FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE

I'm on that version at the moment, and my packages installed ok as seen here https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=84637.msg464206#msg464206

Could it be a difference in hardware, my test fw is a 8Gb dual core intel nuc with 128Gb ssd fwiw.

                    Upgraded again to:
                    2.2-BETA (amd64)
built on Thu Nov 27 00:15:05 CST 2014
                    FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE

and the packages reinstalled OK this time (Cron and bandwidthd were reinstalled).

So maybe there was some other issue, or the previous build had changes that Ermal was part-way through finishing.

My APU, ALIX, and all package test systems reinstalled all packages fine and started their services correctly after upgrade to both of the snapshots that have come out on the 27th, seems good.
