im on nanobsd alix with pfsense 2.2 RC, the lan interface has the option to select media as autodetect with flow control, is there anyway to do the same on the wan interface as the gui seems to be missing this option?

one other issue i noticed was when i switched my lan interface from autodetect to autodetect + flow control and applied, i lost complete access to alix, serial console was only alive, had to reboot to get access to it after which started working

What it displays there depends on what the driver reports is available. With most NICs, flow control is controlled via sysctl. The vr NICs on the ALIX don't have such sysctls. That option shows up for me on all the NICs.

by default when u fresh install pfsense, flow control is not negotiated or enabled, now for lan we can enabled that from the interface tab but my wan is a pppoe connection so i dont get the config option in the interface page of pppoe, could u guide me on how to enable flow control on all the nics in alix by default using any command, ifconfig shows the card supports it

                    supported media:
                            media autoselect mediaopt flowcontrol
                            media autoselect
                            media 100baseTX mediaopt full-duplex
                            media 100baseTX
                            media 10baseT/UTP mediaopt full-duplex
                            media 10baseT/UTP
                            media none

Assign and enable the parent interface of your PPPoE connection but leave it set as type 'none' for both IPv4 and IPv6. Now you have access to various hardware settings for that interface.
