Post firmware upgrade package installation does not end at all. I have only one package to install ( tinc ).
      Alix APU Hardware firewall.

      log:
Jan 12 13:22:26 getty[53760]: open /dev/ttyv0: No such file or directory
      Jan 12 13:22:23 php-fpm[37114]: /rc.start_packages: Restarting/Starting all packages.

      What to do?

Packages are currently being reinstalled in the background.
Do not make changes in the GUI until this is complete.

That package is badly broken. Full stop. Never worked. Should be deleted from the repo unless someone volunteers to actually maintain the thing,

Thats nice that the kind of packages exist on repo. Quality check fails..?

It worked on 2.1.x, I know a few people who used it, but it does some questionable things to create its interface group which probably broke on 2.2.

If nobody steps up to fix it and it remains broken by 2.2-RELEASE it will likely be disabled/removed.

OK - what to do now when the installation stays for ever on state: " Packages are currently being reinstalled in the background. Do not make changes in the GUI until this is complete."

How do I stop this for ever ongoing installation…?

Diagnostics->Backup/Restore, there should be a Clear Package Lock button. Press that to get rid of the "Packages are currently being reinstalled in the background".
Then go looking in logs to try and see what died that prevented a clean package install and unlock.

Note to other readers: Do not clear the package lock until it has been stuck "a long time" ™ - it might just be taking a while to download, unpack and install stuff (e.g. on nanoBSD with a slow CF card, on a slow link...)

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

Package reinstallation is slow even on my VM running on an SSD and i5-4590 with 4 cores assigned.  It used to take ages on my old Atom box.
