Cant figure out scheduling.

Hey all. I'm new here and to pfsense. I'm struggling with something I feel should be extremely straight forward. My goal was to allow my daughter to have internet access on her ipod from 6AM-8:30pm. I found a link from here with what seemed like good instructions, but I feel like it must be missing something. I've been through the configuration at least 5 times in the last two days and I can not get it to work right.
- I created a alias and assigned the devices IP to that alias.
- I then created a schedule. I clicked on each week day at the top (thus highlighting the whole month because I want this to be a set schedule. Not month to month). I added an entry for 0:00-6:00 and saved. I followed the same steps again, only changing the times to 8:30-23:59.
- At this point I went to the rules. I selected the LAN tab, and created a new rule. I set Action to Block, Protocol to Any, Source to "Single host or alias" and then selected the name of the alias I created previously.
- Once these steps were finished, I scrolled further down the page and where the pull down menu is for Schedule, I selected the schedule I created.
- The last and final step I made was to go back into the rules tab, and just make sure the rule I had created was at the top of the list.
With these said steps, the device has no internet whatsoever. If I simply go into the rules section, and delete the rule I created the device works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm starting to lose my mind over this.

I think I have it setup exactly like you, but for me it works. Weird ???
Except: is there a pass rule AFTER the block rules? You need that as well.
(You don't need the alias, btw, if it's only 1 device IP. Make sure that is static, 'though).

I setup the alias cause there will be multiple tablets and computers using the same settings (I have three girls).
Here is a pic of my rules. Hopefully you can steer me in the right direction. I'm a networking noob, so go easy on me please! haha

The pic in itself looks fine to me. Can you test it with a one hour time block only? Say 2PM - 3PM? (go diagnostic/states/reset states first). You are on 2.1.5?

My guess is you can internet 2,5 hours between 6.00AM - 8.30AM?
Shouldn't the 8.30 not be 20.30?

Just wanted to check in and say that so far, the internet is working! Such a stupid mistake! I was on the verge of smashing things. haha. I even went as far as checking the dashboard to verify the time, which was obviously displayed in the 24 hour format, and I had to stop for a second to think about what time it really was. That still didn't clue me in!
I really appreciate your help! Just glad that ultimately it was something easy. I do have one other question for you though. I've just gone and setup squid and squidguard. Just wondering how I can allow specific IP's full access while restricting others? Google is pointing me in the direction of editing the .conf file, but I'm not sure how to get there? I'm running pfSense on a netgate APU.

As far as squid/squidguard is concerned: I deinstalled that a long time ago, because I wasn't happy with it (I wanted it for performance, for caching, 'though, not for blacklisting sites). There are many tutorials, also in this forum, on how to set it up; it isn't too difficult.
However: there's always a but ( ;D ). I just found this two weeks ago: diladele.com. Looks very nice, you might consider trying that too, to see if it fits you (and then report back experiences of course :P ).

It's interesting you weren't happy with it's performance. I've noticed a significant speed increase since setting squid/squidguard up. I increased the amount of space available for it to save (from 100mb, to 2000mb). I doubt that had a huge impact in the performance however. But so far I'm pretty happy with it.

I have seen diladele mentioned in other forums and articles online. I think I will look into that as well. I set the pfSense box up for protection, webfiltering for my kids, and experimentation. I will be sure to report back any findings with it!
