Compatible PCI-E Dual Nic
-
Hello everyone,
I screwed up and bought a board with dual nics but only one of the nics is showing. I had misread the board and thought it was all Intel nics, looks like one was Atheros….
The board is a Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128721There is a PCI-E slot on the device and I am thinking I could easily get a Single of Dual Nic card that is compatible with PFSense 2.1.5 Release. Either Ebay (new/used) or elsewhere is fine. Does anyone know of a card that would work easily enough so that I can get this unit moving forward?
Thank you!

Pretty much any intel NIC will work.

Thanks so much for that lightening quick reply. I went on ebay and found a load of them.
Is there a pFSense "HAL" i can find? I am thinking of these:
1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Port-PCI-EX4-1Gbps-Intel-82575EB-E1G42ET-EF-E1G44ET-Gigabit-Server-Adapter-/261541748491?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ce51a5f0b
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-HP-NC360T-PRO-1000-Dual-Port-Server-NIC-PCI-e-GB-Network-Card-41265-001-/300926367213?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46109bf5ed
Looking for solid production reliability for a small business. Appreciate the help.

At home I'm running seems like the pro 1000 card with dual NIC interfaces in the PCIe 16 video card slot of my computer and its very stable.
This one is cheaper and I am 100% sure its compatible with both current and future release of pfsense.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-D50868-002-EXPI9402PT-PRO-1000-Gigabit-Dual-Port-PCI-E-NIC-Adapter-/391026886427?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b0b04c71b
or
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-EXPI9402PT-PRO-1000-PT-Dual-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Full-Height-Bracket-/151552254360?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item234937e198
Its really hard to go wrong with intel. I think I paid $10 for 2 single port cards and $20 for 1 dual port card and the WAN is running on a 10/100 built in broadcom NIC that has also been trouble free.

Ahhh, nice find. Unfortunately the bracket is unusual and low profile, I will need a full height unit. I have always had good luck with Intel nics on pFSense and Untangle so I may "byte" the bullet and choose the server model I had found (#1).
If it works I will report back to help others out.

Oh I see the new edit and thats a good find! I will switch to that. Really appreciate you taking the time, thanks again!

Good luck.

There is a driver for that Atheros NIC floating about here. It is now included in FreeBSD 10 -head but too late to make it into pfSense 2.2 unfortunately.
Let me see if I can find the post….Here: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=78932.msg434620#msg434620
That should be loadable in pfSense 2.2 64bit.

I like my Intel i350-T2. I guess there is a newer version according to Intel Ark, i350-T2V2
