I want to configure a VPN to use with my Android phone.

I'm fairly novice when it comes to this stuff, but can follow directions. Back before my HDD failed and I had to completely rebuild the system, I had this working. I believe I had use IPSec, but I can't be certain.

My phone is a Galaxy Note 4.

Any one have any tips/advice for me on how to get it configured? I tried the writeup in the docs but must have gone wrong somewhere, because it didn't work.

      Thanks in advance.

My personal suggestion after playing a lot with all the possibilities pfsense offers - OpenVPN.
        It's well documented here: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/OpenVPN_Remote_Access_Server

Yep, OpenVPN works great. I've been using the 3rd party OpenVPN client on Android for some time but there's an official client available now.

I think I have it configured on PFSense correctly, but I am lost with what to do on my phone. it's asking all sorts of questions I can't answer, and wants certificates that I have no clue where to get.

            Any tips?

In pfSense install the OpenVPN client export package. Export the in-line config for Android. Import that into the Android client. The certs and key are all taken care of.
I'm sure there are some instructions here somewhere…...
