I read that 2.2 handles carp differently where additional interfaces are not created.  I stack IP Aliases on top of CARP to reduce broadcasts in 2.1 for port and IP forwards (I have about 20 on a WAN CARP interface).  I assume I will still need to do that with 2.2.  Is that correct?

It still works the same in regards to multicast. The fact it doesn't have an additional interface isn't really of any functional consequence from a user's perspective.
