Downloading Pfsense
-
hi!
i am trying to turn my dads old computer into a router (although it has a xeon and a firepro so i am having second thoughts) i have tried downloading 64 bit serial for a usb and i am using the texas server. i tried it on a windows computer and a mac and when using 7zip, it says there is no volume. when using mac, it gives me a different error.
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but am i doing something wrong? also, will a beefy cpu help anything? just curiousthanks,

After you've written the image the USB drive will be formatted UFS which windows can't read. So what you're seeing is normal. Are you sure you want the serial image for a serial console though?
A powerful processor will allow you to run hungry packages or push encrypted traffic. You may not need it though. What bandwidth is your WAN connection?Steve

I can open the gz file but when I try to unzip the img it gives an error
I thought that the only difference was that vga needed a monitor or something
Also, my bandwidth is up and down, usually at least ten Mb to 50 mb up and 12 mb downIs there a special program that opens img files
Tried 7-zip -

Yep ^ that.
You don't need to open the .img file. Once you've removed it from the gzip (.gz) you write the .img file to the USB drive.Steve
