      I noticed its possible to use/apply some settings at the command line which will not show up in the gui.

      This got me wondering, is it possible to create a fw rule at the command line which will not show in the gui?

      TIA.

        Nothing you do at the command line will show up in the gui.  Nor will it survive changes made in the gui nor a reboot.

          So if in doubt always reboot to make sure everything is running as per the config shown in/via the gui?

            When you make changes at the command line, those changes are not written to config.xml so they will not be persistent.

              So …
              @Derelict:

              Nothing you do at the command line will show up in the gui.

              I can add a fw rule (and possibly other commands/configurations) at the command line which will not show up in the gui.

              Nor will it survive changes made in the gui nor a reboot.

              @Derelict:

              When you make changes at the command line, those changes are not written to config.xml so they will not be persistent.

              Any possible command line changes will be destroyed upon reboot unless written to the config.xml file.

              Ok, thanks thats useful to know.

              Edit.

              Does anyone know what would be the best commands to run to find out everything about the current state of pfsense and dump it to txt/log files or communicate the output to a network source, perhaps on a periodic cron job maybe?

                Yeah. Make changes using the GUI and save /conf/config.xml.
