        Connect pfsense WAN to modem

        Connect switch to pfsense LAN

        Connect computer to switch.

First it is OK to get started like you have - connect pfSense WAN to a switch that connects to the LAN side of some DSL router with internet access. pfSense WAN should get DHCP from DSL router, pfSense LAN side should route through pfSense WAN to DSL router LAN and out to internet.

What are the IP addresses/subnet mask of pfSense WAN (DSL router side network) and pfSense LAN?

If they are both in subnet 192.168.1.0/24 then you will have a problem.
For this, change pfSense LAN to some other private subnet.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

Don't forget to uncheck block private IPs on your WAN interface.

"For this, change pfSense LAN to some other private subnet"

Tryy like 192.168.23.1 for LAN IP (so 192.168.23.0/24 subnet)

192.168.x.1    (the x is the number you can change.  pick any number from 3-253

I have a similar problem with a different twist.  I have my internet directly from an ethernet connection from my ISP which I then connect to a router then my switch to supply the rest of my devices.  However with pfsense I have removed the router and just used the the switch to supply my other devices.  So here's what I have done.  First I connected my ethernet to the WAN(DCHP) which is my public IP address 74.xx.xxx.xxx/21 then the LAN port which is my private IP address 172.16.0.1/24 which I changed during the configuration and my subnet is 255.255.255.0/24.  I have also unchecked the boxes on the private networks under the WAN interface.  I can access all the internal devices but I cant get access to the internet.

Make sure that you do NOT have a gateway selected for LAN.

The only thing I have under gateway is WAN_DHCP and WAN_DHCP6 and one says offline and the other says pending

To make it clear, when you edit the LAN interface Interfaces > LAN, IPv4 Upstream Gateway should be None

Still have no internet access however what I did find was unbound DNS resolver says that it has stopped and it can't be started.  I don't know if that's the problem but anyone have any thoughts?
