      Hi All,

Has anyone got squid2 or squid3 to cache youtube videos? Could you please point me to some guides on how to configure this?

I am a first time pfsense user (started couple of weeks back) and love this project.

      Many Thanks.

YouTube can be really hard for Squid to cache effectively.  Why do you want to cache YouTube?  The chances of your users happening to watch the same videos out of the millions available are slim.  You might be better off using a browser plugin-based video downloader to download any YouTube videos you want to be local and store them on pfSense or a file server.

Thanks for that insight KOM. I am in a small setup and we only have 10 users. They are on youtube the whole day and listen to the same song over and over again and they share youtube links among them a lot and others watching the same video is high in our . Therefore, it would be very beneficial for us if if is possible to cache youtube videos. I would highly appreciate if anyone can point me in a direction to achieve this.

          Many Thanks.

I too am searching in a way to do this, sometimes my 200 clients all watch the same viral videos in on day, it really could be beneficial for me if Squid cache those videos !

In the other hand, as Youtube is now only serving with HTTPS, I'm afraid this is not possible unless you first trigger Man-in-the-Middle feature of Squid !

That's right. And YouTube code are constantly being changed. I've implemented some cache options on pfsense package using squid wiki but it's not an efficient cache acl.
