    Hello developers,

I'm using pfSense 1.2 live cd installer, but I had some problems loading it to a hard drive.  During the format and partitioning phase, it saw that the range of the partition was too large and recommended smaller geometry (which I accepted).  Then, after choosing a partition, the process started and failed.  I see in the log that the fdisk command did not use the recommended geometry, but instead tried to use the original geometry.  From the format screen, it recommended c9964 h255 s63.  From the log I see it wrote tmp/new.fdisk with the following:
    g c39236 h16 s255
    p 1 165 255 160082625
    p 2 0 0 0
    p 3 0 0 0
    p 4 0 0 0
    a 1

The device is /dev/ad2.  The error messages are:

Warning: Cylinders (39236) out of range…
ERROR: Number of sectors must be within (1-63)...

    Any help and/or workarounds?

    Thanks,

    Sir_Ty

The Search button (above) is your friend.  Putting in cylinders out of range provided 4 hits, including your post, amongst which is:

Thanks, got it installed by changing from auto-detect to LBA for that hard drive.  I had another error, I installed GRUB and got "Error 18" which I didn't feel like researching so I reinstalled without GRUB.  Everything seems to be working fine now.
