Installing PFSense on ASUS RT-N66U Router
-
Hey All
I am currently running PFSense on a spare pc i had. Runs perfectly but i think its a little over spec and a little chunky for my liking.
So i was wondering could i install pfsense on to a asus RT-N66U router. If so how can i do it and has anyone done it lol.
I would like to have 2 wan connections and 1 lan connection.
Thanks in advance
Mat

That Asus box probably runs on MIPS, which is not supported.

Per the other post, the RT-N66U is not an Intel processor and you won't run pfSense on it directly. I currently use a low power pfSense box with two ports and have my Asus RT-N66U connect to the LAN port as an access point… works great setup this way.

Ah fair enough. I thought it was worth an ask. Ill look at a watchguard unit instead.

use can use merlin wrt (moded asus) or ddwrt on that router; and it is probably a good idea to do so.
pfsense needs x86
using a rt68u with merlin wrt as my wifi AP with pfsense on an old core 2 as my dhcp/firewall

Good point… and another vote for Merlin. Been using it for a year or two now and it has always been rock solid.

I use a low power computer with a single interface for pfsense and an Asus N16 with DD-WRT as a VLAN Switch/AP

I run the RT-N66U as my AP with merlin's tweaked firmware.
