I'm not a Unix expert but occasionally I'm seeing very high CPU load on {irq15: vr2 ata1}. I have no idea what this is and no idea how to stop it. I'm assuming it's one of the interfaces trying to write to the disk but why? It's causing the CPU to spike and causing a network slowdown over all. RRDGraphs don't show any high bandwidth utilization on the WAN interface.

Maybe your hard disk is crapping out.
