      ( ;D )

      I'm trying to install MS Hyper-V server on one of my PC's that just had FreeNAS on it.

      Installer complains about 'GPT, not MBR, can not install on this disk'. (Crucial M4 128GB).

      I've waste TWO HOURS on trying to fix it (time, health and love are the ONLY two assets in life, all else is bullshit).

      I've tried a zillion special 'tools' USB disks, like Hiren's, Gparted, UBCD, the original Windows 8.1 install disk, and so on and so forth, to try to get the disk back to 'normal', 'factory' if you wish. I even sent in two blond 19 years old twins to help the disk to get back to normal.

      Nothing, nada, niente.

      Would anybody happen to know how I kick this machine back into behaving?

      Thank you very much in advance  :P

      ( ;D )

        Those are just partitioning schemes.  Why would Windows care about that?  Blow the disk away and start without a partition.  KillDisk the first 100 sectors or something.

          diskpart
          list disk
          select disk X
          clean
          exit

          Windoze cannot boot from GPT unless you have UEFI and actually boot the install media in UEFI mode.

            But he's not booting, he's installing.  You boot from the Windows DVD and then use the partition GUI (advanced mode) to blow away any existing partitions.

              Uhm… when the mode you boot does not match what's on the disk, it simply does not work. Really. (Plus, not even sure there's any advanced mode in the Hyper-V installer.)

                Or if you have a pfSense sandbox. YMMV adjust da0 and da0s1 as needed.

                gpart list
                gpart show da0
                gpart delete -i 1 da0s1

                    Thank you Gjaltemba; I tried these with the pfSense install disk, but gpart apparently isn't included in there.

                      Buggy crap - but I got it to work  ;D

                      So in addition to my yesterday's attempt:

                      • Tried a Macrium restore boot disk: didn't see the disk.

                      • Installed Openelec/Kodi: flawless.

                      • Tried installing Hyper-V again by deleting the partitions Kodi created from within Hyper-V installer. Same error.

                      • Rebooted box, tried Hyper-V installer again: worked.

                      As the Dutch saying goes: 'maak er maar soep van' (Try to make soup of it).

                      Why is it, that in 2015, we still have to reboot which then solves a problem?

                      As I told one of my friends on this forum: we haven't progressed at all for the past 30 years; we're doing the same as we did in 1985, only on faster hardware an now with the internets.

                      ( ;D / >:( / :-[ / :'( )

                      Thank you all for your assistance  :-*

                        I feel a DEEP, intense, HATE, for the tw*ts over at microSuck  >:( >:( >:( >:( HATE, PURE HATE.

                        • Release freeware crap without a GUI;

                        • Have you waste hours on trying to find out how to install it in the first place;

                        • After you finally managed to do that, find out it is nearly impossible to remotely administer it from W7; "you have to use W8". So, where are all the retarded gov officials who 'monitor market abuse'; mandatory bundled sales anyone?

                        • In 2013, when W8 came out, I bought some licenses on a ms promotional offer;

                        • It's bloatware to the maximus extremus, so I installed it on my HTPC's but quickly ditched it for native OpenElec.

                        • So now I install crapware W8 in a virtual box on my W7 in order to remotely administer the crap called 'Hyper-V';

                        • The TW*TS (yes, capitals, raah  >:( ) over @ MS having been messing up their activation crap once again: suddenly, my license keys are no longer valid. I bought these keys directly via MS >:( >:( >:(

                        • So trying to access that Hyper-V crap with W8 not-activated, seems you have to do all kinds of 'powershell' and 'registry tweaks' to even make that possible.

                        • Which once again costed me hours and hours to find out.

                        • And which I still didn't get to work.

                        'bill gates' is the biggest TW*T on earth, and for all the other retards over @ ms I feel:HATE, PURE HATE.
                        Linux is evil, but 'microSucks' still beats it by miles.
                        Oh, and 'bill gates', with your 'do good foundation': you SUCK.

                        You always have, and you always will.

                        Retarded world, with all these 'IT-experts' and their for dummies books.

                        I hope a one man startup in Bangalore, who does it in his free time, crushes microSuck. The world needs to be freed from this crap, it has been going on for too long. 30 years of microShit terror, enough is enough.

                          Considering who ever shouts/markets the loudest/most wins the argument/sales, its perhaps obvious why they are doing well, same goes for Apple.

                          Edit - On this point, for £30k a few years ago, you can get an article written in the Sunday Observer (The Guardian) and The Sunday Times, if you grease the right palms and the readers dont even know they are ready an advert, plus that £30k spent generated in one week alone over £100k of enquiries. Today they are the world leader in what they do!

                          People listen to people with money it has a Milgram like obedience to authority effect on people. Then you have Asch conformity worth watching this short clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyDDyT1lDhA to see it in action, hence its worth going to a prospective client armed with many people and the Dr in the YT clip does a good TED talk on the Psychology of Evil if also interested.

                          Find out what motivates someone then exploit them.

                          Some people get put off by free things as they also prefer to have the option to sue even though most never read the agreement contract when they install software, but dont worry their cognitive dissonance gets shelved nicely away.

                          Its like women, treat them mean and they keep coming back. Logically it doesnt make sense but thats humans for you!

                          Capitalism, currently The World's best Entertainment Control System and YOU cant buy it! But you can buy this, or some of this or some of these

                          Asch Conformity, mainly the blind leading the blind.
