After upgrade the console menu is gone
After upgrading from 2.1.x to the current release, the console option menu is gone and the console is only showing a login shell which is not working, i.e. it wont accept a login name. When pressing "enter" the shell asks again to give your username.
The GUI and firewall are still working.
How can I fix it so the console option menu is showing?
Thank you in advance.
Unless it's a serious issue for you to do so I would backup your config file and re-install 2.2.2 clean when faced with that.
It's slightly odd that you're still able to login to the webgui, I assume you cannot login there with the same username/password?
try username as "root" and password from webgui.
Somebody ticked in the options "password protect console".
Thank you guys for the responses.
@robi: the root/webgui password credentials didn't work either, as the console just spawned another login shell
@steve: I could still login in the webgui with my old credentials. Browsing the webgui I noticed more things were broken, dropped tables for example.
I restored a snapshot backup in order to continue business.
According the release notes, the current OS used by pfSense is FBSD 10 while after updating my pfSense box the OS was still on FBSD 8.
I will re-install the latest pfSense and restore the config, thank you for the advice.
Ah, that implies it hadn't rebooted correctly after the upgrade. It's possible that rebooting manually could have brought that back. Odd symptoms for that. A clean install is safest though.
