How does pfsense deal with tagged traffic on an interface that it wasn't setup to monitor it on?

For example if I have Opt2 with no vlans configured on Pfsense and I start sending traffic tagged for vlan 500 on that interface, will pfsense drop it, or will it ignore the vlan tag?

It may depend on the interface. I'm not 100% certain but I think if the interface supports hardware VLAN tag processing it may drop it unless the interface is configured for that tag.

Otherwise if the interface is not configured for any tagging, I believe it ignores the tag if the NIC only handles VLAN tagging via software.

          Good question, great answer.
Are there current NICs that do not support VLAN tagging themselves? If so, which?
