Multi-Wan with Layer 3 Switch
-
Current Setup: Dual Xeon, 8 Gig. RAM, 4 WAN, 2 LAN
So I have setup a Layer 3 Switch to do inter VLAN routing, Everything is working fine, VLANS can talk to each other, access the Internet, etc. However, I noticed that Internet speed has dropped.
1. When there were no VLANS, and pfsense was doing everything, speedtests would show the aggregated speed of the 4 WANS
2. With the VLANS in place, I'm seeing a significant drop in Internet speed. The rule on the LAN interface is to use a gateway group consisting of all four WAN links in tier 1
Is there anything I may have missed in the pfsense config?

I have no idea how this is even possible. In order to aggregate a data stream across multiple WAN connections you need to have your ISP bind them together. pfSense will load balance multiple data streams across connections, but not combine multiple WAN connection to aggregate bandwidth.
This is a much more reliable speed test tool: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest

Hi Tim,
Surprisingly, when using speedtest.net, results show aggregated speeds. Will try your link.

Ok. Left everything overnight without touching the config ( pfsense -> L3 ) switch:
Seems everything is ok. Bandwidth tests (using speedtest and your link ) are attached. Please note that the four (4) WAN interfaces are DSL ( 8mb/768kb , 13mb/1mb, 10mb/768kb, 8mb/768kb ). Would love to have faster, dedicated links but Internet its too expensive in my side of the world :-)
