Rosewill G Wireless PCI Card not giving a connection but giving ip address

  • so i went into my parts room grabbed an old MOBO and a intel pent 4 then order

    2 X Gigabit NICs
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704011

    1 X Wireless G NIC
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166021

    anyways everything works except the wireless nic which will broadcast an SSID and have a WPA2 password, and when i connect to it, it gives me an ip address out of my odd numbered pool to see if my dhcp sever was working and it was. then after im connected no other packets will go though the NIC even though i just got an address and im connected

    i have it setup as my edge router/firewall

    i dont know but it fells like im just one setting off

    ANY THOUGHTS WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

  • I am assuming you are using OPT1. Did you make a rule to allow traffic? It is not automatic.

  • For an edge arrangement I would do this.
    RE0=WAN with Dynamic IP
    RE1=LAN set to Static IP with 192.168.10.1
    OPT1=WLAN set to Static IP with 192.168.20.1(Or Subnet of your choosing)

    Save and go to DHCP server tab and enable DHCP server on both LAN and WLAN interfaces. Use an appropriate address range for leases. Get your WLAN going before dealing with the WAN -by connecting to the LAN port with a client machine.

    Now go to firewall rules and make a rule for OPT1 that looks like the rule for LAN which is made automatically at setup.
    Source=OPT1 net -Any/Any for starters and you can refine later.

    Your choice of an RALink adapter may not have been the best choice. Atheros works best in hostAP mode in my opinion.
