Need Help! Recommendation for gigabit WAN + VPN.
-
Noob here and I'm ready to give pf sense a shot in my home network. I have a gigabit WAN connection (1000/1000) (AT&T Gigapower), so I need something that can accommodate those speeds.
Ideally I need:
-
Small footprint or Rackmount
-
Quiet
-
Low Power (optional)
-
1000mbps simultaneous WAN-LAN routing
-
AES acceleration - I need excellent VPN performance
I'm not too concerned about budget, but obviously don't want to be spending thousands of dollars. What would you guys recommend that could meet these requirements? A full-blown i3/i5 CPU?

The Rangeley Atom chips should fit the bill. SuperMicro puts out some 1U shallow depth rack units with them for around $500-$600. Just add memory and hard drive.

You can probably piece together a unit for less using a c2558 based chip(quad core).

those rangely cpu are nice if you go the low power way and would be fine to handle you connection.
they might get close to gigabit IPSEC_aes-gcm (=500-700mbit). they won't do any other vpn technology/crypto at those speeds. (openvpn will probably max out at <=100mbit)
