Routed Public Network Users
-
Hi
I'm posting this new thread regarding routed public networks because I'd like to gauge from other users who also have a routed public network if they're having the same issues I am.
If you have the following setup could you please test this for me…
The Setup
1. 2 WANS, static IP's on both, WAN should be PPPoE (done on the PFSense Box), WAN2 should be just a static IP
2. A Public routable network on an optional interface that is routed via your WAN2 (NOT your WAN)
3. No Load Balancing (but if you have it, try this any way)
3. The WAN ISP and WAN2 ISP should be different providers (NOT the same ISP)What I need tested
1. From outside your PFSense (NOT from a directly connected network like your LAN), traceroute to one of the public routable IP's on your OPT network. In the traceroute do you see the IP of your WAN interface or WAN2 interface just before hitting the IP your tracing to.
2. If you disconnect your WAN (i.e. disconnect your PPPoE) and trace to the same IP as you did before can you get to it?I have the described setup and everything is working nicely right up to the point where the WAN (PPPoE) disconnects and the WAN looses it's static IP, then I can't access the public routable network via WAN2.
I personally believe I've stumbled upon a bug, or either an un-documented limitation with routable networks and multiwan.I would appreciate your input.
Thanks

No takers on this yet? :(
Am I doing something out of the ordinary? surely someone out there in PFSense land has a setup similar to this?
