After a fresh install of the latest pfSense, is everything closed off from outside to in by default? And how can I see the traffic to find out what's going on in real time?

      Thanks.

Per default LAN to WAN is allowed.
        Everything else blocked.
        status–> traffic graph.

(you should really first look at the features and play around a bit before asking)

We do what we must, because we can.

Of course I have, but wanted to ask in case I missed something. Thanks.
