      This is obviously not the best place to ask this, but here we go:

      Ive always wondered how websites that host images/videos monitor their content. for example, imgur lets you upload any image anonymously in seconds, how do they stop you from uploading illegal content? They cant be checking everything manually…

      Wouldnt this be a problem for the site owner?

      Another example are video sharing sites. How do they know you arent uploading illegal content/copyrighted stuff?

      Is there any system which automatically scans it? Can that even be done?

        Yes, of course.  They use a combination of automated systems that create a hash of the image you uploaded and then compare that hash to a massive library of hashes of known kiddie porn, and manual intervention based on content filter alerts and user complaints.
