There hasn't been any feedback in months. Is the prospect of a published hard copy a mute point at this time. This is a simple question yet, still unanswered. Over a year ago I asked this question, the message that came up is it's almost done. Avoiding all the spew about a downloadable digital version, I am simply asking if there is a hard copy coming and when. A simple no, would save me from asking the same damn question over and over again. Truly not interested in the obstacles causing the release latency, simply looking for a NO or a definitive release date. As a loyal user of your software, I find it disturbing that I have consistently been put off on this matter, being given no proper answer. I'm ready and have been ready to pre-order the book.

It's being worked on, that's all I know. No ETA. JimP might share more information.

What I can tell you is that pfSense Gold includes constantly updated HTML version of the book that can be accessed via our portal.

I stopped waiting :D Bought an e-reader, and using the epub version of the book available for gold-members.

The reading experience is… different... but not so bad. I'm kind of getting used to it, and it has several other advantages.
Lots of books on one device. It remembers on what page you left off. And, maybe my pile off technical books stops growing (most of them are only collecting dust anyway).

            YMMV.

Electronic distribution is so much better for us I'm honestly not sure if it will ever get printed again at this stage. There is so, so, so much overhead involved with printing, legal/agreements/costs/etc that it's prohibitive in general by comparison. Given how frequently we work on it and update it, we can keep the online document alive and updated constantly but print versions are outdated before the ink dries…

It's still possible we may do a print run eventually, but the terms/costs/return would have to be very favorable, and at least with the last few places we've looked into, one aspect or another was very undesirable.

while i understand that the hassle of printing it might not be worth it, but for a lot of people its too expensive @ $90 for the gold subscription.

yes i realize you get more stuff with Gold …. but some just want the book, and they can't

Have you considered releasing a ePub version of the book? It's actually electronic, and looks like printed on ebook readers like Kindle. It can be sold via many webshop channels just like the printed book, including Amazon which delivers it right to the Kindle reader, in a couple of seconds…

I meant releasing it as an electronic book which can be purchased just like a regular printed book. Through Amazon, for example.

Are the PDF and book formats updated alongside the HTML version? Last I looked, they appeared to be several months behind.
