I am trying to configure pfSense to run it on a computer that is not located in the same office as the ADSL modem.  What is the best way to do this?

I am actually trying to configure the system to use 2 ADSL lines via modems.  Most examples show configuring pfSense to use PPPoE and plugging the modem into the back of the pfSense box.  The way I would like it to run is to plug both modems and the pfSense machine into a switch and get them to talk over the lan.

What is the best way to do this?

So your using a longer cable is all.. ;)  As long you isolate the switch ports used with their own vlan and then connecting to 2 different nics in pfsense or vlans on 1 nic I don't see what the issue would be.  Or maybe I am not understanding what your wanting to do exactly.

If I am using PPPoE, the only thing I configure on the Interfaces: WAN screen are the username and password that is passed to the ISP.

How does NIC1 know that it is talking to ADSL Modem 1 and NIC2 know it is talking to ADSL Modem 2 if all that I am configuring are the ISP credentials, but not specifying which modem to use?

You need to isolate them with your vlans on your switch.
