I have a full Bitcoin node setup at my house and sometimes it hogs the bandwidth to the point where I can't browse the Internet or anything Internet releated.

I've tried setting up Traffic Shaper and a Limiter but both seem to do nothing.

      I currently have a 10Mbits/1Mbits ADSL connection.

For the shaper, I'm using the PRIQ for limiting the bandwidth. I have the Bitcoin node set for the lowest queue (I added a firewall rule under "Floaters" for the Bitcoin port 8333)

On top of that, I also created a limiter. I've limited it to 500Kbits and set it in the same firewall rule.

      Here's some screenshots.

Another thing, it seems that my download speed is horribly affected when Bitcoin decides it needs to upload lots of stuff.

This is common, which is why "ACK prioritization" is one of the more common traffic-shaping scenarios. http://www.benzedrine.ch/ackpri.html

You could accomplish your goal with HFSC's "upper-limit" parameter. (Limiters confuse me, so I cannot help you there.) Traffic-shaping is not easy. Just keep reading and testing until it makes sense.

Please correct any obvious misinformation in my posts.

Did you rate limit your WAN interface? You show you setup a limiter, but you didn't show if you configured your interface.

I deleted the configuration. Wasn't able to get it working. I played around with it. Everything else would work, for example, I could get it to limit http traffic.

I just want the bitcoin node to have full bandwidth until someone wants to load a web page or download a file etc.

I think this is more what you want https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=63531.0
You may need to use 2.1.5 to get it working though.

HFSC traffic shaping works just fine for me on 2.2.4

More the limiters with NAT rules issue for my 2.1.5 warning.

So limiters are not working? I never use those.

When there is a limiter on a rule where NAT forward or reflection applies.
