      Hi,

I have a new Pfsense installation and once in awhile, the built in dns server will stop resolving certain queries… My browser fails to load a page and says DNS lookup failed, so I try on nslookup and get what I pasted below, but then I try nslookup on other domains and they work. If I wait a minute or two and try the same query again, it works. How do I fix my dns server?

      Server:  pfSense.localdomain
      Address:  10.10.3.1

      DNS request timed out.
          timeout was 2 seconds.

      *** Request to pfSense.localdomain timed-out

Look at Status: System logs: Resolver perhaps? (In case you did tick any of the 'Register DHCP' checkboxes in DNS Resolver configuration, I'd suggest to untick those.)

There's no recent logs in the log area and there's no errors anyway.

I have "Register DHCP leases in the DNS Resolver" checked - why uncheck this? It's the entire reason I am using pfsense as my DNS server

Because Unbound is retarded. Check Redmine and/or this: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=89589.0
