Form Input Width Granularity

Could we have more granularity for shorter width input fields?
The step between 1 and 2 is double where as the step from 9 to 10 is only a bit over 1 tenth.

In many places 1 is not wide enough and 2 is way to wide.  Very limit to form layout and efficient display real-estate usage.  Same for 2 vs. 3.  Sometimes 2 is not quite enough and 3 is way to much.

Is this for 2.3? If so it belongs on the 2.3 board.
