Stuck in Boot Crash Loop
-
Newbie that didn't get a reply in the hardware section:
I have an installation that crashed after running for months and cannot boot to a point where I can produce logs.
uname -mrs == FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p15 amd64
If I let the device boot without a single intervention, there's a crash of some kind, then an immediate reboot. If I don't power the device down, it's stuck in this cycle.
The only thing logged in /var/crash is a file named minfree with 2048 as the only line.
Attempts to boot the system:
Single user mode.
File system is mounted read only. Cannot do anything as the system is in read only mode. /usr/local/bin/php /etc/rc.conf_mount_rw returns fatal error because it can't open anything on /tmp Cannot umount. Cannot mount -o remountBoot with kernel.old
Cannot find kernel.Booting to a live usb stick allows me to run fdisk, but nothing changes. How do I get out of this bind?

Reinstall and reload your saved config? Depends on whether you're trying to just get it running or if you really want to get to the bottom of the issue.

At this point it's the second reinstall in a few months. I'm ready to blame the hardware, starting with the disk because fsck just doesn't work. It's a solid state disk.
It's an Atom fanless box that was pre-configured I got on Amazon. I'll replace the drive with a standard hardware sata.
