I tried to setup a pfsense virtual machine to connect to my VPN provider and I noticed that when I rebooted one of my physical routers, it grabbed an IP address from the pfsense virtual machine (my physical router gets its WAN IP via DHCP) . I don't know why pfsense does this. I don't know if it's an option I enabled on accident, or if it does this by default. I can post configuration screenshots if needed; however, I don't know which ones I should provide, but I'll provide them if needed. I apologize if there's already a thread on this; however, I didn't see threads relating to this issue. I'd appreciate it greatly if someone could help me with this.

Got an IP out of the LAN subnet you have defined I presume? It sounds like you have your WAN and LAN networks crossed somewhere. If you don't have the DHCP Server enabled on WAN, then it's not your config or firewall at all, something at a network level is wrongly interconnected.

I took your advice; I found my mistake on my ESXi server. Thanks for your help!

Do you mind explaining your find in detail and how you fixed it? I may see some broadcasting traffic as well, and I though I've set the DHCP to run on the internal interface. Plus, in ESXi I've set the WAN and LAN interfaces in their own separate switches with their own dedicated nics.

            Thank you.
