I have been running pfSense for a couple of months now.  I am in the UK, and am using pfSense to connect to my Fibre Broadband provider (via BT Modem) using PPoE

Just upgraded from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6.  Following upgrade the WAN connection was down.  Couldn't understand why or what was going on.

Eventually noticed that the PPoE settings were missing in the WAN interface section.  Thought I'd simply restore settings from the backup I took prior to the upgrade, as I couldn't remember my Username & Password for my Broadband connection.

Unfortunately when the backup was restored, the WAN PPoE settings were still not there.  So not in the backup.

Took me a while to dig out these settings for my provider … but running now.

Couple of questions, hoping someone can answer :-

      (1)  When I do a backup (Diagnostics, Backup/Restore) should the PPoE settings be backed up ?
      (2)  Why following an upgrade did the WAN PPoE settings disappear

      (3)  Are these bugs ?

Anyway, all seems OK now. Just took a while to get my settings back.  Couldn't remember password so took some trial and error.

      Stu.

        1. That should all be preserved across an upgrade, specially the simplest upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6.

Did you backup the whole config? (I guess yes, if you just backed up 1 section then a lot more would be missing)

        1. Don't know - it should "just work".

        2. Really need to know exactly the config and sequence of the upgrade. Then maybe it could be reproduced and then the bug found.

The settings are all in the config.xml - you should be able to search in there and find your username and password…

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
