I've started having a problem with my internet connection starting about 48 hours ago where I can't access the internet at all.  I'm using a VOIP device (connected to my switch/router) that sends me an SMS when the connection drops so I've been using that to alert me to internet connection problems.

I'm looking through the pfSense logs and the only thing that seems odd is the gateways.log:

      Dec 26 19:17:25 router apinger: ALARM: GW_WAN(x.x.x.x)  *** loss ***
      Dec 26 19:19:54 router apinger: ALARM: GW_WAN(x.x.x.x)  *** down ***

I've redacted the IP address but it's my cable modem's IP address.  However, it seems like these messages are showing up in the log for several days now (and they repeat a lot).

Another message I see in the logs is this:

Dec 24 04:13:08 router apinger: Could not bind socket on address(x.x.x.x) for monitoring address x.x.x.x(GW_WAN) with error Can't assign requested address
Dec 24 04:13:09 router apinger: Could not bind socket on address(x.x.x.x) for monitoring address x.x.x.x(GW_WAN) with error Can't assign requested address

Does anybody have any clue what's going on here?  I've called my cable company and they report my modem has been online for 24+ hours without any interruptions/disconnections.

I've tried searching on these forums and it seems like apinger might have some problems and is incorrectly (?) marking gateways as offline?

I think I just upgraded to v2.2.6-RELEASE about the time I started having problems so that might also be a clue?

Lastly, there were warnings (800+) in pfSense when I logged in showing this:

      There were error(s) loading the rules: /tmp/rules.debug:30: could not parse host specification - The line in question reads[30]:table {199.181.132.250/32 orns01.dig.com./32 orns02.dig.com./32 sens01.dig.com./32 sens02.dig.com./32 } ]
