      Hey everyone,

I picked up a Watchguard x750e for myself as a Christmas present to learn more about pfSense. I received the firewall with a 512mb SanDisk CF card in the chassis and I have a 4gb SanDisk and 256mb Transcend CF cards available as well but I'm having issues flashing the BIOS with FreeDOS.

I've followed the piles of tutorials online and written the FreeDOS image with awdbios updates to all 3 of my CF cards and none of them boot. I never get to the 3 beeps so even if my cables were bad I know that the OS isn't booting. I've also tried to flash the BIOS with flashrom from within the pfSense2.1 install but that fails as well. It says I have the incorrect image size and that my BIOS is 1024kb while the image downloaded is 512kb. Using the -f to force flashrom fails with the same error. I guess having the correct 1024kb image would work but I haven't seen any reference to that online.

If I use pfSense 2.1-512mb-nano I can actually boot and configure the device with pfSense and everything appears to work normally including my console/null modem connection. I'd like to be able to run newer versions, though, so hopefully someone has some ideas on how I can complete the BIOS upgrade.

To use flashrom with the 1mb rom you need to use my 1mb rom dump.

You can find it here: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=20095.msg510551#msg510551

That image will write with flashrom from within pfsense.

I hate to bring this topic back from the dead, but the link you posted doesn't seem to work any longer.  Any chance you could post you 1M bios with the additional mods?  Also, is it based off of 8.1 or a different version?

          Thanks!

            Hi,

I have attached the 1mb bios to this post.  The main 750e thread was deleted by mistake.

I believe it is based on 8.1

No other modifications were made to this bios, it is a straight copy of Stephens original unlocked bios.

              Thanks, for recovering that.

It doesn't look like we will be able to restore that thread. Tough lesson learned.  :'(

              Steve

Thanks!  I'm going to give this a go tonight.  Sadly I haven't been able to get any sort of FreeDOS image running but VyOS, pfSense, m0n0wall all have no issues so I'll be using flashrom to get there.  Fun stuff!
