Change interface assignments
-
Hello,
is it possible to change interface assignments without (!) losing all connected data like IP adresses, firewall rules, NAT etc. on the chnaged interface?
Thanks

Yes, that is the way it works. Go to Interfaces->Assign and change the logical WAN, LAN, OPT1… to whichever physical interfaces you want them to be.
Of course, if you change the physical interface from which you are accessing the webGUI, then after pressing apply you will need to make the matching hardware cabling (or VLAN switch or...) changes also. -
Hey,
that is not what I want.
For example I have WAN on WLAN10 which is no longer in use.
I use opt7 as WAN on VLAN20.Now I want to change WAN to VLAN20, but I dont want to recreate all the stuff that is located on opt7.

It's not clear what you're trying to achieve. It sounds like you might previously have had two upstream / WAN connections on WAN and OPT7, then the WAN connection was discontinued. If that is the case, what rules do you want on the sole remaining upstream connection?

Ok I will try to explain again:
my WAN interface is no longer in use, I have different WAN connections on OPT interfaces.
But I cannot delete the WAN interface in pfsense. It is there. So I want to move one of my OPTx connections to the interface pfsense calls WAN.
Including its IP address, firewall rules, NAT rules and all other stuff connected to it.So in short, just exchange 2 interfaces. In this case WAN and OPTx.
Is there a way to do this without recreating everything by hand?

Not automagically. If you are careful and look and think while doing it, you can download config.xml and edit it. Change "opt7" to "wan" and "wan" to "opt7", looking through carefully for all references to those and making sure to ignore places where those strings might randomly occur (like in a randomly-generated key).
Make sure to have the original config.xml well backed-up!
Restore the edited config.xml and let it reboot. Make sure you have console access to see what goes wrong and recover from it. Do this outside critical hours!
If you do not understand something, or are not confident in thinking through and doing the above sort of stuff, then don't do it - it is possible but I would not recommend it for the average user.
