Clients losing IP -
-
A bit new here; installed pfSense last year for openvpn use, Works great. Generally. The pfSense servers all wired clients on my home network. DSL modem_>pfSsense->clients (wired). I have aliases & firewall rules for certain devices to use the vpn, others bypass and just go out through the providers connection. Problem; Every few (2-3) weeks all my clients lose IP/connectivity. I usually can power down the pfSense box with the power button, power up, then it all works again. Last few weeks the server doesn't make it past 5 days before this happens, and now I can't recover without attaching a monitor and keyboard to it and restarting services.
Is there a way to access the pfS box other than locally (monitor/keybrd) if it's not giving IP's? And is there any fix for the random DHCP/IP dropping issue?
Sorry I can't give more details but I followed the guide at the OpenVPN forum and it work(ed) great. I'm looking for something a bit more stable than 2-3-4 weeks if possible.
Thank you -
What hardware is in the server? Specifically what chipset is running LAN interface?
Search the forum, there are lots of people who have issues with certain vendor's chipsets having issues, chief among them Realtek. -
Thanks. I hooked up to monitor and got "Fatal trap 12: page fault in kernel mode" So is it time to reinstall? I'm using Broadcom 1gb cards, 2 x pci.

Yikes! That's bad news. So you could try re-installing, maybe something got corrupted. If the problems persist, I'd suspect the power supply as the source of the problem.

I removed both Broadcom pci nics, rebooted and still got the Fault error. So I put one back in, turned on the motherboard nic and went to the boot menu and chose 'default config'. It booted and I was able to login thru the web panel! I had to setup the PIA vpn interfaces again but it seems to be working. At least for a while.
How do I save the config to a file on a usb drive so I can restore later if I need to reinstall the complete pfSense from cd?
Thanks!
