3COM office connect card
-
I have a 3com wireless card running off a PCMCIA to PCI adaptor but it is not seeing the card. I am trying to see if the card has been detected though.

Hard to say, you don't mention what other NICs are in the box. It's detecting the PCMCIA slot at least.
compare the output of ifconfig with the card in and with it out. It could be the xl0 card it's detecting.
-
WAN is the XL0
Lan rl0
Wireless ral0
Lan2 dc0
but then I want the 2nd wireless to show up which it isn't.Does the cardbus need a driver (sorry if this is stupid queston but I don't know anything about freebsd). After some digging I belive the PCMCIA card has a connex chip in it.
-
Oh, it's a wireless card, I missed that initially. Wouldn't be xl0 then. :)
What's the exact model on the card?
-
The wireless card is an 3CRWE154G72
-
There is no sign here that the system recognised anything in the cardbus/PCMCIA slot. Perhaps the PCMCIA device is broken or the PCMCIA slot is broken.
If the device was recognised by the system as being present it would have been reported, though possibly not without an identification. For example,
pci0 <network>at device 12 (no driver attached)</network>
Is your PCMCIA slot on a PCI card and not on the motherboard? Maybe (and I haven't looked at the card bus bridge driver to see what it does in this case) the BIOS doesn't recognise the cardbus bridge as a cardbus bridge and doesn't assign it the necessary resources (bus numbers, io ports and memory addresses) to support downstream devices. If that happens, when the system scans the PCI device tree it may not see devices (your wireless PCMCI card) downstream of the cardbus/PCMCIA bridge.
If you post the output of the command:
# pciconf -r pci2:7:0 0:0xff
(this displays the configuration registers of device 7 function 0 on pci bus 2, the cardbus bridge) I'll take a look and see if the resource assignment looks sensible.
Even if you get past the hurdle of getting your card recognised you may find there is no FreeBSD driver for it. It seems this card uses the Intersil Prism GT chipset and I can't see that chipset listed in the FreeBSD hardware support list, though it may possibly be there under another name.
-
I know the cardbus PCI card does work because I have pluged it into a windows machine and all functions well. I will try that command tonight and post the output.
