SG-2440 - new install - console not responding after F1.
-
I called Netgate recently to purchased an SG-2440 to replace an older netgate model. The sales person told me to purchase through Pfsense rather then netgate, to get the unit pre-installed with an "Optimized" version for that router. I was somewhat surprised they would suggest buying from someplace else, but when I called "pfsense sales" I found out they are really one in the same company correct? First, does this unit actually come with a different version that is available via downloads? If so, where can I find that iso as I think I'm going to have to rebuild it anyways (so much for the preinstall "savings").
My older Netgate is running 2.2.6-release, this new router came with that version preinstalled. I exported the configs from the old unit (lots of certs/etc) and the did a config restore to the new unit. All seemed find, I got the message about having to remap interfaces, which I expected and did and hit "Apply". After that the console boots up, but when it gets to the "F1" to boot, hitting F1 displays a "|" and nothing appears to be happening (waiting over 10 minutes). Even paper-clipping the reset button doesn't do anything, I have to power cycle the router. What's odd, is I can get into the router's http interface via the assigned IPs from restore, turn on ssh, and ssh into it fine. But it appears using the console usb port is no longer works. Is there a config possibly that needs to be put back for that? Any ideas what may be going on?
Thanks!

Nothing from anyone? I hope I don't have to burn a "free" support ticket I bought with this router as an up-sell from sales@ people! I've installed at least a dozen of the older netgate models, this one with the serial port and cable is nice, but isn't useful if doesn't come up. I don't know why the serial console would stop, ssh and dashboard login works fine. Where do I get the "Optimize" image for this router, or was that merely a sales tactic?

Hi,
i think you can download the right image here:
https://www.pfsense.org/download/mirror.php?section=downloadsJust select the "Netgate ADI RCE-VE" Image and you should be fine.
I don't think that there are other tweeks but i'm not 100% shure. If there are any other tweeks please let us know PfSense Team.

If your on console and you see F1 Boot, just hit enter(return) and it should boot. It works for me when in console.

Right, I hit F1 boot via the serial console. The next line is a :"|" and never shows the ssh menu. However, the router does come up as I can ssh to its IP and access the web interface, but serial console doesn't work.

In that case, you should try to adjust the console settings in the web interface.

Yeah it seems like your old hardware used a different baudrate then your new SG-2440.
What is actually configured? It should be set to 115200.https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Console_Types
