Where do I buy something like this for pfsense: https://www.olx.ph/item/intel-quad-core-pfsense-firewall-4-gigabit-lan-ID6Zo8E.html?p=16&h=5e4a8e15c9#5e4a8e15c9 ?
I thought J1900's have Realtek ports? Why does this have Intel ports? Is this APU any good?
I just need at least three ports to support dual WAN configuration and that's pretty much it. I can use a squid proxy server in the future but this is just for home use so that means that only a handful of computers (5 - 10 max).

This device is is at the price of ₱ 13,000 that means nearly ~$280 and there for I would not go with it.
I would more go with a more experienced box that is able to get for the similar price but 100% working!I thought J1900's have Realtek ports?
This is not based on the used CPU, but more on the vendor that is assembling those dives!
Why does this have Intel ports?
The vendor was soldering them on the board, thats all.

The APU series is fine working with pfSense and a new board called APU is also launched in Q1/2016
so you will be able to get both boards but the newer one is also coming with Intel ports and AES-NI
for nearly the same price. The SG-units from the pfSense store are combining the best things from two or both worlds and are also
really interesting units to run pfSense. intel Atom C2000 SoC and 3 mini PCIe slots are also nice.My favorite J1900 platform is this one.
ready assembled
or as self made spare parts
Please see under "Frequently Bought Together"100% powerfull enough to route 1 GBit/s at the WAN port and running snort and pfBlocker-NG
for nearly the same price as your box! -
Yes, but the reason I'm asking where I can buy that same box is because that seller sells it overpriced. I think this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Router-mainboard-J1900-nano-pc-support_60385248053/showimage.html is the same box and it is for considerably less.
When I said "APU", I was actually referring to the general term APU, not the APU series from PC Engines :) But I get your point.
I did some research and yes that Jetway box seems to have appeared as one of the good recommendations a couple of times but I feel that it is overkill for my application. How many Watts does that Jetway box run for at idle and at load?
With that said, what do you think of the alibaba link I've posted above? Was pfsense tested on that board in any way?

6w or 9w or pending on the installed packets and used services more.

I am aware of this art and wise of pico PCs because really often this ones are running to hot and then
the CPU is trolling down or the watchdog reboots the device to often. Perhaps it matches for a smaller
router but nor really for a firewall likes pfSense. Was pfsense tested on that board in any way?
I really don´t know this.

Oh ok. But how about the APU series, are they not also overheating because of their small form factor?

With a mSATA, a modem and a WiFi mini PCIe card they will going warm for sure but without any problems
as I am informed right, there are no issues that the case or board will overheating. And the new APU2 is not
so long on the market that we will be able to have any kind of threads about that, so all in all the PC Engines
APU will be able to run pfSense without any heating problems. As I told before if VPN is not really the point
or main the need the APU or APU2 will be more tending to be a entry level device. But for some coin more
you will be able to get your hands on this device
and with RAM, PSU, case and a mSATA you will be more placed in the mid ranged level, also without AES-NI, but
powerful enough to route 1 GBit/s at the WAN port and built nearly a fully UTM device running for many years. So it is not really easy to decide what to do, then you might be mostly have more and more a look over all
devices and your budget for sure also. You can buy cheap and be lucky or and vice versa. If VPN will be actual or in the near future a really urgent point I would have to think about something
with AES-NI or if OpenVPN will be more coming on top of all needs you might be thinking it over and
decide to go with a INtel Atom C2x58 based SuperMicro board. But there fore we don´t know to less
about your concern and needs and situation.- What is the budget
- How fast is the Internet connection?
- How many users must be sorted with this pfSense firewall?
- What kind of spare parts are there? Or must you all part buying new?
- Is VPN or any packets really actual urgent to install or to use together with pfSense?
