Jetway JNF9D-2550 Onboard NIC stop working
-
Hi guys.
I have a pfsense setup working solid as rock for 2 years working.
After upgrade to 2.2.6-RELEASE (i386) FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25, the 2 x onborad NICs will stop forwarding packets, for each one of these 2 NICs, the green and amber ethernet status lights will go off. Since they are WAN and LAN on the setup, all connectivity is lost.
The others interfaces will remain operational (3 x Daughterboard Realtek RTL8110SC and a Atheros Mini PCI WiFi adapter) all the way, just the onboard NIC (WAN and LAN) will stop working. All 5 x NIC was recognized by the system at the setup process with no type of problems.Thermal sensor shows 33C and reamins in the green side.
Any idea and what is taking place?.
My system components as follows:
Jetway NF9D-2550, Intel Atom D2550 1.86GHz Mini-ITX Motherboard
4GB DDR3 SODIMM Memory
Kingston Digital 120GB SSD
2x Realtek RTL8111EVL Gigabit Onboard LAN
3 x Gigabit LAN Port Daughterboard Realtek RTL8110SC (Gigabit, 10/100/1000)
1 x Atheros Ar5008 Ar5416 Mini PCI WiFi Adapter -
After upgrade to 2.2.6-RELEASE (i386) FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25,
It is a 64Bit CPU and so you should also installing the AM64 version of the latest pfSense version.
At one time 32Bit is running out and will be not maintained or get new code in and served with
new drivers too. So for sure this is a longer way for us all to get all things done before the 32Bit
version will be get to the EoL (End of live) status. So can only imagine that newer drivers will not
be put inside of this 32Bit version, and this version will also die at sometime, so we must settle
on newer hardware, but the 64Bit version will be get then more attention and faster updates
and upgrades. You see that your CPU is from Q1/2010 and this is now 6 years ago and now
you should install the 64Bit version that you will be right sorted with all new things like all
the other customers.Any idea and what is taking place?.
Do a fresh and full install, install the AM64Bit version of pfSense and install back the backup file
of your configuration and lets see what is happen then! Some would imagine that the changing
process is really slow running but perhaps we will see something is changing more fast as we
could imagine it. -
Thank you so much for your message and time. As per today the system has not failed since I have a fan over it. It seems as soon temperature go above some degrees the main board will start a shutdown sequence. Looking at the BIOS I have not seen nothing related with main board NIC shutting down due to temperature issue. Will continue to investigate and document for anyone that end up with this issue.
Thanks.

What a day guys…..my system died and I have to install all over from version 2.1.5 to make the 2 main NIC to work (LAN and WAN).
At the mainboard of the Jetway NF9D-2550, there´s 2 x NIC Realtek 8168/8111 (WAN and LAN) that pFsense version 2.2.6 will have driver issues with these 2. Connecting a screen at the VGA port, I will get a lot of "phy write failed", related with the drive issue.
The 3 x Daughterboard Realtek RTL8110SC (8169/8169S/8169SB(L)) NIC´s are working perfectly, the issue is with the onboar NICs.
I´m not happy going all the way to version 2.1.5 but I´m online after 3 hour of work trying to locate the source of the problem.
Any idea of after the upgrade, the since with start to outperform?...will this issue be corrected in further updates?
Thanks.
Mike.
