      Hi,

      I just did a clean install of pfSense-2.2.6-RELEASE-2g-i386-nanobsd.img on my Alix 2D13 board which was running 2.0.2 version just fine.
      The bios version is 0.99h

      After the upgrade, the boot sequence is stuck at the following:

      (aprobe0:ata0:0:1:0): Retrying command
      (aprobe0:ata0:0:1:0): ATA_IDENTIFY. ACB: ec 00 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 00 00 00
      (aprobe0:ata0:0:1:0): CAM status: Command timeout
      (aprobe0:ata0:0:1:0): Error 5, Retries exhausted

      Here is the full boot sequence:

      Please help. I also tried pfSense-2.3-BETA-2g-i386-nanobsd-20160224-1522.img but it does the same thing.

        You probably have a CF that fails to function when DMA is enabled. Can follow the instructions here to disable.

          When I try to disable DMA at the boot command prompt, I get "not found" in the response. :(

          OK hint.ata.0.mode=PIO4
          hint.ata.0.mode=PIO4 not found
          OK hint.ata.1.mode=PIO4
          hint.ata.1.mode=PIO4 not found

          Is there any other way to disable DMA?

          Edit: I just realized I was not using "set" before the option. I'll try again and get back.

            An IDE-DOM would be also running very well without deactivating something.
            Or a smaller IDE-SSD would also ding his very best together with this board.
            Only as a workaround.

              I tried following at boot command prompt but it still doesn't want to boot. What could be the issue?

              set hint.ata.0.mode=PIO4
              set kern.cam.ada.write_cache=0
              boot

                It still fail with the same logs? I can't think of anything else that's changed that would impact that.

                  Yes it still fails with the same error.
                  I tried v2.0.2 again and it works. Also v2.1.5 works.
                  Looks like v2.2.x has issues with this board.

                      ALIX certainly works fine on 2.2.x and 2.3, it's the CF card if anything to do with hardware. Upgrading to the latest BIOS wouldn't hurt.

                        How has your performance been on these with 2.2.6?

                        Mine run out of memory often!

                        I am slowly replacing all my alix with homemade 2578
