When I edit (add a line to) the ntpd.conf file, it reverts back to default upon restarting services.  What can I do to stop this?

You are adding by hand instead of through the web interface, general setup page, ntp time server line?
Most of the configuration is stored "elsewhere" and then pushed to the correct spot when things are started, so any hand edits to ntp.conf are likely getting overwritten.

You can't manually edit any conf file. What are you trying to change?
