    By chance does anyone know how to enable S.M.A.R.T.? I try to run the disk tests but I get the same message each time. Might be something stupid or I'm just being a bonehead and overlooking a simple setup step. I should also mention that there is no further message or editable field associated with this message.

    Here is the error I get.

    "smartctl 6.4 2015-06-04 r4109 [FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25 amd64] (local build)
    Copyright (C) 2002-15, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org

    SMART Disabled. Use option -s with argument 'on' to enable it.
    (override with '-T permissive' option)"

        @Perforado:

        smartctl -S on -s on -a /dev/[DEVICE]

        enables smart and shows all smart values

        I figured it out. I had to use the command prompt and type in the code you provided. Its all tuned on now. Ty so much. +1 Karma for you Perforado!!! 8)
