Upgrade to 2.3 - No Dansguardian?
-
Upgrade to 2.3 went well. A few bugs but overall nothing drastic. Two strange things however:
1. There appear to be two menu items for Squid Proxy.
One menu item called "Proxy Server" and another one called "Squid Proxy Server". Both point to the same interface set.
2. Also had Dansguardian installed in previous release. Was removed by the upgrade process? Still shows up in the services Menu.
I searched the docs but didn't see references to Dansguardian being removed in the 2.3. Did I miss something?
Thanks for a great product guys!

cool! I appreciate the reply!
Now, I suppose I have some work to do. how do I remove remnants of both dansguardian and squid. And is there a way to make my network "kid friendly" again?
Thanks again!

There had been quite a bit of work going on to get e2guardian (a much improved fork of Dansgurdian) going as an official package (https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=87526.0), but it seems to have fizzled out. I'm not sure why, as there seemed to be quite a bit of interest. I've been trying to get e2guardian working myself on 2.3 but haven't quite made it yet.
I'm in the same boat as you though, trying to keep my network family friendly. I have been running Ubuntu Server for about 10 years with Dansguardian but started making the move over the pfSense in the hopes of simplifying my setup. I'm at a bit of a roadblock right now though without a filtering option (phrase weighted filtering is a must), so until I get it figured out I've still got my Ubuntu server running.

My gosh… the list of package removed is sooooo long... Better stay in 2.2.6 ......
