Help quagga ospf

Hi, Im working with a network composed of multiple PFSENSE boxes running quagga. I'm really struggling on understanding how this is working. I see a basic config via the gui, meaning I get how you configure it ( least I think i do I am a cisco router guy). the status tab ospfd.conf is the only place you'll see any config (besides the setting and int tab). I am confused at how to see the ospf neighbors and do general router commands in it. I have shell access but it's root to just BSD so not understanding how or what I can do/see. I understand I can see certain things on the gui route diag etc but looking for more. I also need to know how quagga works in this implementation so if it dies we understand the essentials. I checked and searched around before asking this so I'm sorry if someone can point me to something that this has already been posted I'd be very appreciative.
