Moving one install of pfsense to another computer
-
Hello all,
I would like to know if I have a working pfsense installation, can I install pfsense to another machine (both machines use the HP NC7170 PCI-X Dual Port 1000T Gigabit Server Adapter). If I have the config backup of my original can I use this on the other machine or do I have to re install everything.

Yes.
If you go to Dianostics/Backup Restore you will notice that you can pick and choose what you back up and what you restore.
Me myself… I do a complete backup. Then when restoring, I pick and choose what I want to restore using the dropdown. Since you will have to have your new pfSense box up and running with basic setup to get to the GUI anyways this could be an option for you if "Restore Area- All" gives you problems.

If they both have the same NICs it should be as simple as installing the same or later version of pSense and restoring the config. Should be able to go from 32- to 64-bit, too if required.
Should be able to try it offline and see while the old firewall just sits and works.
