@anno: To be 100% sure is the controller intel I350, Intel 82576, Intel 82580 supported to? From what I've read here in the forums and if IIRC. The I350 and 82580 should/might work in 2.1. But the 82576 is supported in 2.0. I'm using the Intel Gigabit ET2 Quad Port Server Adapter[1], which uses the 82576. Working fine here on 2.0. If you can't disable DMA in the BIOS you will have to set it as a loader option. Though I would expect to see some dma errors if that was the problem. Are there any BIOS updates available for your board? It suprises me that there are no DMA/IDE options. If you can use a serial console try the normal Nano image (without VGA) as it has DMA disabled by default. I don't know why the VGA version doesn't do this. To disable dma you need to add: hw.ata.ata_dma="0" to /boot/loader.conf.local, create the file if it doesn't exist. However you will probably need to boot correctly first in order to add that. See this doc for details: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Booting_Options#Disable_DMA_for_IDE_drives Steve

pfSense currently only supports x86 hardware and I'm fairly sure the air port isn't. Feel free to start porting it though!  ;) There have been previous efforts to get an arm port running, search the forum. Steve

Yes, telnet is generally very good for breaking things, which is why it's often hidden ;)

Sorry for the double post. But to follow up, going to Link to Drivers and specs Then sending an email to there support requesting a login to download the drivers needed. They will then email you back with a login to their site. Use this to download the drivers needed. And use the info in the link proved by Havok to compile and move to the correct location. @Cry: You may want to try searching the forum, then you'd have found this on the PXG4BPi. I can find nothing about the PXG61 however, even on Silicom's own site.

@amitaussie: Registered Pfsense Users=Min. 4000 (using Local database as Radius may not able to provide the option to users to change their passwords on their own as Local database gives this option) Hmm, are you going to give your 4000+ users access to the pfSense webGUI to change their passwords on their own? Anyway, if I understand you correctly, you want to use pfsense's CP to authenticate users, then use Squid/SquidGuard/Sarg/HAVP/Snort to mitigate network threats and log usage. Generally speaking, for a load of ~500 concurrent users I'd split the functionality: run router/firewall on pfsense VM & transparent proxy on another system (note: I understand that virtualized FreeBSD's disk i/o performance is rather problematic).

@balubeto: As CPU, what you advise me? Since a 500MHz AMD x86 CPU is reported to be capable of handling over 80Mbps WAN link I suspect that any x86 CPU (except possibly Transmeta) that is no more than about 10 years old should do the job.

Hey Nachtfalke, You can check the current setting with: kenv -q | grep hw.igb I believe the default is 2048 and maxes out at 4096 in pfSense.  I put the config entries I mentioned previously in /boot/loader.conf.local - a reboot will be required.  I think the documentation for the igb driver is here: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=igb&sektion=4&manpath=FreeBSD+8.1-RELEASE Some of the Intel nics use the em driver, it has similar settings: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=igb&sektion=4&manpath=FreeBSD+8.1-RELEASE Regards, Steve

Wireless-N is not currently supported in pfSense.  You need a separate AP (or wifi router cobbled to work as one) to get Wireless-N at the moment.

@bmironb: See this topic : http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,603.0.html As I mentioned, I've already read that topic but since it's from 2006, there's no feedback on version 2.0.1 on the same hardware.

2.1 is still beta. No ETA, probably 1-2 months, could be more. As always, upgrades will be supported and will be as smooth/seamless as possible.

@cmb: @choppergage: how much power bills you get if you using dell server? Depends on your power cost. 2850s and 2950s pull a steady 250 wt, so 6 Kwh/day. Average US power cost is $0.12/Kwh, which would make that $0.72 per day, an average of a bit under $22/month. That sounds about right, my bill dropped probably around $40/mo when I turned mine off.  Other circumstances went on around the same time that made it hard to tell, but I'm pretty sure your calculation is pretty accurate.
