    Yeah I tested with a 900mbps udp flood on lan and pfsense handled it without packet loss

    For sure it can be a method likes a network stress test, but seriously you should perhaps consider to use
    the iPerf tool on two PCs in your LAN to get a proper number of theLAN throughout!!! And not the WAN
    throughput likes we are talking about if we spaek about the ISP Internet link of 1 GBit/s that must be handled
    by the hardware.

    Whooo, I really only want to know this personally, not with a targeted time frame, only for my own interest.
    Thanks a lot for this information.

  • Looking for a recommendation on a mini-PCIe WiFi adapter

    I'm trying to find a mini-PCIe adapter that supports AP mode AND is dual-band 802.11ac

    There are many WiFi adapter that comes with AP and master mode for sure, but as I am right informed
    the 802.11ac standard is not supported by pfSense at this time actual.

    on whether or not they support master mode (AP mode) AND will work with Linux is almost non-existent.

    In Linux you would be perhaps having some luck, but pfSense 2.2.x is based on FreeBSD 10.1
    and there fore you might be not the lucky guy.

    I know there are some USB .11ac adapters that will do it but I was hoping to not have to dedicate a USB port for it.

    Hmm, as I am knowing the USB 2.0 Ports are all able to delivers something around 480 MBit/s in theoretical
    and often mostly maxing out at ~280 MBit/s, but the 802.11ac standard is able to deliver up to 3,2 GBit/s
    in theoretical and at the moment more in the direction of 1300 MBit/s, both is to high for USB 2.0.

    If you own a USB 3.0 port, it would be perhaps running then related to the maximum throughput of
    USB 3.0 at ~2,4 GBIt/s and theoretical it can do 5 GBit/s.

    Supermicro A1SRM-LN7F-2358also not really at 300 € more in the direction to 400 €.

    Or the brand new SG2-2200 from the pfSense shop.
    or
    Intel G3260 dual core 3,0GHz ~80 €
    miniITX Mainboard with dual Intel 210AT or  Intel 217 GB LAN Ports ~100 €
    miniOTX case & PSU ~100 €
    4 GB RAM ~ 50 €
    mSATA ~60 €

    1-2 years of extremely high usage so I want to replace mine with a pfSense box, not to mention all of the awesome features that it comes with.

    But fore sure if you get a very fast Internet link from your ISP, you will be also needing a really fast
    hardware to turn on all things and features.

    alix2d3 + squid3 + squidGuard = too slow?

    If Snort and other packages comes on top, this would be perhaps also to slow!

    Is there any chance to optimise settings or something, or is it time to upgrade, eg. to a new apu1d?

    This both can be done by yours! For sure, but a Atom C2x58 Board or appliance would be bringing then more
    benefits on top as you will explore on the first look!

    Just to be clear this is not an OS problem as these Atheros AR5 modules don't support dual band. Period. Not even in linux.
    OpenWRT does support dual band on routers that use it…

    @baggar11:

    The Rangeley Atom chips should fit the bill. SuperMicro puts out some 1U shallow depth rack units with them for around $500-$600. Just add memory and hard drive.

    http://www.provantage.com/supermicro-mcp-220-00051-0n~7SUPM45W.htm

    You can probably piece together a unit for less using a c2558 based chip(quad core).

    those rangely cpu are nice if you go the low power way and would be fine to handle you connection.
    they might get close to gigabit IPSEC_aes-gcm (=500-700mbit). they won't do any other vpn technology/crypto at those speeds. (openvpn will probably max out at <=100mbit)

    OK, so this is really weird.  It works on IE, which I never use, but not on chrome or firefox.  How can this be?

    In the MS IE mostly nothing comes pre-installed and you will only to accept and allow something comes java based
    as this would be normal in this days pointed to the java security.

    But, the other browsers comes often or will be often later sorted with script and adware blockers and there for
    it could be that you will be getting in trouble then, not only on a pfSense box, as I see it right!

    For sure let the Ccleaner running once before you will reconnect to the pfSense box makes in some rarely
    cases also sense. So that nothing from earlier connects will be stored in the cache or elsewhere that can
    corrupt the login process.

    @jimp:

    When you received the unit it should have come with a card explaining how to activate and use support. We monitor the forum but not as closely as the official support queues for customers, which receive a response in a much more timely manner.

    I just received my SG-2440 yesterday, and the box did not have any such card.  Not a big deal (I've already registered the system), but thought you might want to know that the shipping process may
    be falling a bit short.

    … it would be good to set up the same at the SG device and Putty.

    No, it's mandatory.

    @Sir:

    In particular, I saw the picture of A1SRI-2758F, below.  It only has one 4-pin cable.  Other builds I saw with A1SRI-2758F and M350 case they all use a 20-pin pico PSU and an external power brick.

    On those other builds someone did not quite do their research  ;)

    It's a shame that extra connector on that picoPSU is not an i2s header, otherwise you could have connected that to the motherboard!

    @arduino:

    I've used a pci-e ribbon cable which allows me to connect the card using a x1 to x4 and it works perfectly fine.

    That's because pci-e is designed that way. Some motherboards have pci-e slots with no 'end'. You can fit a larger card without any problems. Some server boards have it the other way around, they only use x8 slots, but electrically most of them are x4 slots.

  • How to convert to all bonded interfaces?

    WAN is on VLAN 5, LAN is on VLAN 10, a G(aming)AN is on VLAN 20, and a free AP is on VLAN 30.  All through the bonded interface.

    Presently, the three VLANS (LAN, GAN, and OPAN (Get the pun?)) correspond to three different virtual wifi hotspots in my wifi setup, with LAN requiring EAP-TLS, GAN requiring a WPA PSK (Isolated from the LAN via policy.  Only can access the internet, and a select few internet-facing services), and OPAN requiring you take incredibly slow speeds and shit QOS filtering, and sometimes I do silly tricks like setting up an upside-down-ternet  (OPAN's AP is Free Evil Wifi).

    Uh, no reason you can't use those boards in a chassis with a redundant power supply. And two hard drives.
